Born July 5, 1963, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Edie Falco studied at the prestigious Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film and supported her acting dream by taking on odd assignments -- including dressing up as a giant Cookie Monster.Falco eventually hit her stride playing tough-talking women in films such as Cop Land (1997) and scored her first major screen role in Random Hearts (1999, opposite Harrison Ford). But it was her portrayal of New Jersey mob wife Carmela Soprano in the hit HBO series "The Sopranos" that made Falco a household name, earning her three Emmys, two Golden Globes and three Screen Actors Guild awards.
A breast cancer survivor, Falco continues to tackle acting projects onstage and in front of the camera, including a key role in Freedomland (2006). Her return to the small screen in the cable series "Nurse Jackie" netted Falco her fourth Emmy win in 2010.
