Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen DeGeneresAn award-winning comedienne and actress who made headlines with her very public "coming out" in 1997, Ellen DeGeneres was born outside New Orleans on Jan. 26, 1958. After perfecting her quirky stand-up delivery in comedy clubs for more than a decade, DeGeneres landed a spot on prime-time television with the eponymous and Emmy-winning sitcom "Ellen" (1994-98) and, a few years later, "The Ellen Show" (2001).

In 2003, she became host of her own Daytime Emmy-winning talk show, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and also found her niche as the host of countless televised awards shows, including the Grammys in 1996, the Emmys in 2001 and 2005, and the Oscars in 2007.

Although DeGeneres has been less successful on the big screen, she's best known for providing the voice of the forgetful fish Dory in the animated hit Finding Nemo (2003).
