Born on Dec. 9, 1962, in Bedford, N.Y., Felicity Huffman graduated from New York University, then joined the Atlantic Theater Company, co-founded by David Mamet and William H. Macy. Her first film role came in 1988 with a bit part in Mamet's Things Change. For the next decade, she alternated between television and stage roles.Huffman gained greater recognition in 1998 with her portrayal of a top-notch producer on the television series "Sports Night," then became a household name when she landed the role of Lynette Scavo on "Desperate Housewives," for which she won Golden Globe and Emmy awards. Notable films include The Spanish Prisoner, Magnolia and Raising Helen.
In 2005, her critically acclaimed turn in Transamerica as a preoperative transsexual who learns she fathered a son earned her an Oscar nomination and Golden Globe and Independent Spirit awards.
