Langella's roots in the theater world have added gravitas to some of his most memorable onscreen portrayals. In fact, his most acclaimed movie role -- a Golden Globe- and Oscar-nominated turn as former President Richard Nixon in Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon (2008) -- was a continuation of the character he created for the West End stage production that inspired the film.
Other notable films include Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970), which earned Langella his first Golden Globe nod; the political comedy Dave (1993); and the independent drama Starting Out in the Evening (2007).
