Gale Storm
A B-movie actress and recording artist who rose to stardom on television in the 1950s, Gale Storm was born Josephine Owaissa Cottle in Bloomington, Texas, on April 5, 1922. She received her descriptive screen name after winning a national radio talent contest, which came with a movie contract at RKO Pictures.

Storm appeared in a string of dramas, Westerns and musicals with RKO, but it was the young redhead's portrayal of 21-year-old Margie Albright on "My Little Margie" (co-starring opposite silent-film star Charles Farrell) that propelled her to instant fame. She later headlined "The Gale Storm Show," playing globe-trotting cruise director Susanna Pomeroy.

Storm also gained notoriety as a singer, selling more than 1 million copies with her first single, "I Hear You Knockin'," and hitting No. 4 on the Billboard charts with "Dark Moon." She died June 27, 2009, at the age of 87.
