Gene Barry
A towering television actor best known for his portrayals of natty tough guys, Gene Barry was born Eugene Klass in New York City on June 14, 1919. Before breaking into the business, he also trained as a singer and violinist, adopting the stage name Barry in honor of legendary film star John Barrymore.

Barry's résumé boasts many movies, including the 1953 sci-fi classic The War of the Worlds. But the small screen proved to be his most viable medium, and he starred in three different series beginning in the 1950s: "Bat Masterson" (1958-61), "Burke's Law" (1963-66) and "The Name of the Game" (1968-71).

Later in life, Barry earned a Tony nomination for his spirited portrayal of a gay nightclub owner in the hit musical "La Cage aux Folles" (1984), and he made a cameo appearance in the 2005 remake of War of the Worlds. He died Dec. 9, 2009, at the age of 90.
