Butler then spent two years at one of Glasgow's top law firms before deciding to give acting another go. This time, he focused first on theater, playing the leading role in "Trainspotting" before landing a supporting role in the 1997 historical drama Mrs. Brown.
A string of British films followed, but it wasn't until Butler bared his chest for the title role in the 2001 miniseries "Attila" that American audiences took note. This paved the way for more action films -- including Reign of Fire -- and in 2004, he starred in The Phantom of the Opera. Subsequent credits include 300, Nim's Island and RocknRolla.
