Glenn Ford
Glenn FordBorn May 1, 1916, in Sainte-Christine, Quebec, Gwyllyn "Glenn" Samuel Newton Ford moved to California as a child and became a U.S. citizen in 1939, coinciding with his first major movie role in the Western Heaven with a Barbed Wire Fence.

Following Ford's military service in World War II, his film career took off with a plum assignment opposite pinup girl Rita Hayworth in Gilda (1946), a role that led to more pairings with the auburn-haired starlet and other Hollywood beauties.

After receiving several nominations, Ford finally won a Golden Globe for his performance in Frank Capra's Pocketful of Miracles (1961) and went on to star alongside a young Ron Howard in The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1963) and as the Man of Steel's mortal father in Superman: The Movie (1978). He turned in several small-screen performances in the 1980s and '90s and died in 2006 at the age of 90.
