Howie Mandel
A comedian turned quasi-serious actor who later reinvented himself as a game show host, Howie Mandel was born in Toronto on Nov. 29, 1955. After forging a career in stand-up comedy, Mandel turned to the world of television, where he starred as Dr. Wayne Fiscus on ''St. Elsewhere'' for six seasons (1982-88). He also voiced the role of Gizmo in Gremlins and created character voices for the animated series ''Muppet Babies.''

In the 1990s, Mandel transitioned again, becoming the creator and executive producer of ''Bobby's World,'' an Emmy-nominated animated series about an overly imaginative 4-year-old. Applying his talent for voices, he provided Bobby's trademark, high-pitched squeal and the voice of Bobby's father, Howard.

In 2005, Mandel signed on as host of NBC's primetime hit ''Deal or No Deal'' and earned an Emmy nomination for hosting in 2008, the first year the category was created.
