Born Tracy Marrow in Newark, N.J, on Feb. 16, 1958, Ice-T moved to California after his parents died in an automobile accident and attended Crenshaw High School in South Central Los Angeles. He soon became obsessed with the nascent rap music scene, and after serving a couple of years in the Army, he began performing and recording rap himself.Ice-T eventually extended his talents to film, appearing in 10 movies in the decade following his debut in Breakin' (1984). Although the rapper was initially cast in roles that capitalized on his thuggish gangster persona, he soon showed he could play against type as well, receiving excellent reviews for his turn as a cop in 1991's New Jack City.
More recent films for Ice-T include 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001) and Pimpin' 101. He also plays Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola on the long-running series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
