Jackie Chan truly has suffered for his art: In more than 20 years of moviemaking, the nimble and fearless Hong Kong action star has broken every bone in his body while performing his own stunts. As a poverty-stricken youngster in Hong Kong, he was still able to enroll at the Chinese Opera Research Institute at age seven and rigorously trained with the Peking Opera for the next decade. After an incredibly prolific -- and award-winning -- career in Europe and Asia, Chan broke into the U.S. film industry with 1996's Rumble in the Bronx, followed quickly by 1998's success opposite Chris Tucker in Rush Hour and 2000's comedy-Western Shanghai Noon.
The charismatic Chan has become one of the world's favorite action stars, with much credit given to those bone-breaking, acrobatic stunts.
