Born July 14, 1961, in Northridge, Calif., Jackie Earle Haley is that rarest of all breeds -- a child star who's managed to have a fulfilling adult career. With a raspy voice and edgy presence, Haley got his start in the 1970s doing voice-over work for children's cartoons and appearing in commercials.At age 13, Haley landed his breakthrough role as a swaggering loner in The Bad News Bears, a role he repeated in two sequels. After appearing as Moocher alongside Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern in Breaking Away (1979), Haley spent most of the 1980s on the small screen.
Working behind the camera as a writer and director of commercials for nearly a decade, Haley reestablished himself as an actor in 2006 with two powerful performances -- as the menacing Sugar Boy in All the King's Men and as a suburban pedophile in Todd Field's Little Children (for which he received an Oscar nod).
