The actress, singer and dancer now universally known as J. Lo was born July 24, 1969, in the Bronx, N.Y., daughter of a computer technician and a kindergarten teacher. After making her film debut in a small role in 1986's My Little Girl, Lopez left home to pursue her singing and dancing career.She moved to Los Angeles in 1990 to join the cast of "In Living Color" as one of the dancing "Fly Girls." Film roles followed with My Family, Money Train, Jack, and Blood and Wine, but her breakthrough came when she was cast as the ill-fated Tejano singer in Selena (1997).
Now a bankable leading lady, Lopez has worked in all genres, from thriller (Anaconda, The Cell) to drama (Enough, Angel Eyes) to romantic comedy (The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan) to the offbeat (Out of Sight, Gigli). People magazine voted her one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1997.
