Johnny Ramone
Johnny RamoneBorn in Queens, N.Y., on Oct. 8, 1948, guitarist John Cummings adopted the stage name "Johnny Ramone" when he formed the Ramones in 1974 with Jeffrey Hyman (aka Joey Ramone), Thomas Erdelyi (aka Tommy Ramone) and Douglas Colvin (aka Dee Dee Ramone).

Considered one of the first punk acts on record, the Ramones went on to influence countless other groups. Their best-known songs include "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Beat on the Brat," "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Rock 'n' Roll Radio." The band was also featured in the Roger Corman camp-fest Rock 'n' Roll High School and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Johnny Ramone is often remembered for his frenetic guitar style and for being one of the few vocal political conservatives in the punk movement, publicly supporting the presidencies of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. He died on Sept. 15, 2004, at age 55.
