Born in Dublin on July 27, 1977, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers parlayed his real-life bad-boy image into an effective on-screen presence, making his film debut in A Man of No Importance (1994) before being cast in Michael Collins (1996).But critics really took notice of his striking performance as a 1970s pop star in Velvet Goldmine (1998), in which he played opposite Ewan McGregor and did a lot of his own singing for the role.
