Julianne Moore
Julianne MooreJulianne Moore was born Dec. 3, 1960, in Fort Bragg, N.C. After a few TV roles (including the soap opera "As the World Turns") in the 1980s, her first foray into film was 1990's Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, followed by a string of unremarkable pictures.

In 1993, Moore caught the eye of critics and filmmakers in director Robert Altman's Short Cuts. Her chameleonlike ability to find the heart in diverse roles was demonstrated in movies such as Vanya on 42nd Street (1994) and The Myth of Fingerprints (1997).

But it was her turn as a maternal porn star in 1997's Boogie Nights (opposite Burt Reynolds) that netted Moore her first wave of Golden Globe and Oscar nods. In 2002, she was nominated for two Academy Awards: as Best Actress for Far from Heaven and as Best Supporting Actress for The Hours. Moore's performances in A Single Man (2009) and The Kids Are All Right (2010) garnered her two more Golden Globe nods.
