Born Dec. 21, 1969, in Paris, Julie Delpy was discovered at age 14 by Jean-Luc Godard, who cast her in his 1985 film Detective. Two years later, she landed the title role in Bertrand Tavernier's La Passion Beatrice, and in 1991 she captured the attention of international audiences with her portrayal of a Nazi sympathizer eager to procreate for the Furher in Europa Europa.Although Delpy moved to the United States in 1990 and began to appear in American productions such as The Three Musketeers (1993), she continued to work with European directors as well and in subsequent years exhibited a preference for smaller independent films over Hollywood blockbusters.
Memorable films for Delpy include Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise and Before Sunset (she shared a screenwriting Oscar nod for the latter) and Krzysztof Kieslowski's Blue (1993), Red (1994) and White (also 1994).
