Born Feb. 23, 1976, in Glasgow, Scotland, Kelly Macdonald garnered critical acclaim for her film debut portraying Ewan McGregor's jailbait love interest in the 1996 film Trainspotting.Macdonald went on to portray a young prostitute trying to change her life in Stella Does Tricks, a tragic heiress in Cousin Bette and a royal courtier in the 1998 epic Elizabeth (with Cate Blanchett). In 2001, Macdonald's star began to rise with her ensemble turn as a lady's maid in the Oscar-winning Gosford Park.
Among Macdonald's other notable movies are The Loss of Sexual Innocence (1999), Finding Neverland (in which she donned green tights to play Peter Pan) and Nanny McPhee (2005). Her small-screen credits include the BBC's "State of Play" (2003) and the May-December romance The Girl in the Café (2005), which brought Macdonald an Emmy Award. In 2010, she earned a Golden Globe nod for her role in the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire."
