Born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 24, 1947, Kevin Kline moved to New York City in the early 1970s to study drama at Juilliard. Soon after graduating, he joined the Acting Company in New York, cutting his teeth on Shakespeare's plays and winning critics over for his multilayered performances as Hamlet and Romeo.He won two Tonys for his stage work in "On the Twentieth Century" and "The Pirates of Penzance," and then went on to wow audiences in films such as 1982's Sophie's Choice and 1983's baby boomer drama The Big Chill.
He hasn't looked back since, later winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1988's comedy hit A Fish Called Wanda. He's also appeared in Dave, In & Out, De-Lovely and PBS's Cyrano de Bergerac (for which he received his first Emmy nod in the titular role), and provided one of the voices for the animated film The Tale of Despereaux.
