Bass joined 'N Sync in the mid-1990s while he was still in high school and became a teen idol with the group's release of chart-topping hits such as "Tearin' Up My Heart," "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me." He later tried his hand at acting in On the Line (2001), a film he co-produced, co-starring with fellow bandmate Joey Fatone.
Bass made headlines in 2002 when he announced his intention to train as a cosmonaut and fly in a Russian space capsule, although the project never got off the ground. He also appeared as a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2008.
