Born in New York City on June 10, 1982, to artistic parents who named her Liliane, Leelee Sobieski began her acting career on television after being discovered at age 11 by a casting agent who was visiting her school. Her big-screen break came a few years later, starring alongside Elijah Wood in the high-profile disaster flick Deep Impact (1998), and the unconventional teen actress followed the feat with an impressive variety of starring and supporting roles in Eyes Wide Shut (1999), Here on Earth (2000), The Glass House (2001), Max (2002) and the TV miniseries Joan of Arc (1999), which earned her an Emmy nomination.
After taking a brief hiatus from acting to attend Brown University, Sobieski returned to her craft in a made-for-TV adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons (2003) before signing on to work with director Neil LaBute in his remake of the 1973 horror classic The Wicker Man (2006).
