Born Nov. 22, 1967, in Kenosha, Wis., Mark Ruffalo moved to California when he turned 18, working in theatre and eventually founding the Orpheus Theatre Company.Despite being cast in bit B-movie and television parts for years, Ruffalo found his breakthrough role in You Can Count on Me (2000), followed by higher-profile work in The Last Castle (2001) and Windtalkers (2002). After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Ruffalo underwent surgery and returned to work in a series of films that displayed his acting range, including somber movies such as My Life Without Me (2003) and We Don't Live Here Anymore (2004).
Ruffalo also tackled comedies such as View from the Top (2003) and 13 Going on 30 (2004), thrillers such as Collateral (2004) and oddball roles such as his part in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). For his supporting turn in the 2010 comedy The Kids Are All Right, Ruffalo earned Independent Spirit and Academy Award nods.
