More often than not, Chaykin was cast in supporting roles, appearing in popular fare such as WarGames (1983), Dances with Wolves (1990) and My Cousin Vinny (1992). He did, however, play the title character in A&E's "A Nero Wolfe Mystery" series (2001-02) after first starring in the made-for-TV movie The Golden Spiders: A Nero Wolfe Mystery (2000).
Toward the end of his career, Chaykin appeared in a semi-recurring role as a larger-than-life film producer (loosely based on real-life movie mogul Harvey Weinstein) on the HBO series "Entourage." Chaykin died on his 61st birthday on July 27, 2010.
