At 6 feet, 5 inches and over 300 pounds, Michael Clarke Duncan played a lot of bouncers and bodyguards before finally getting Hollywood to look beyond his imposing physical presence and start casting him in roles that required brains as well as brawn.Born Dec. 10, 1957, in Chicago, Duncan arrived in Hollywood as the security guard for a traveling theater company and almost instantly found work reprising that role in films such as The Players Club and Bulworth (both from 1998). In 1998's Armageddon, he was finally given a part with substance -- that of an oil driller set on stopping an asteroid headed for Earth.
A year later, Duncan found himself receiving Oscar and Golden Globe nods for his portrayal of a convicted murderer in The Green Mile. More recent films for Duncan include Sin City, The Island and the Will Ferrell comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006).
