Michael Emerson
Michael EmersonA gifted character actor who languished in regional theater before finding fame in movies and on the tube, Michael Emerson was born Sept. 7, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After a failed attempt at landing work in New York City, Emerson headed south and honed his acting chops with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

A second stab at the Big Apple yielded better results, and Emerson earned raves in 1997 for his performance in the off-Broadway play "Gross Indecency: The Trials of Oscar Wilde," which led to prospects on the small and big screens. He bagged an Emmy four years later for a guest stint on "The Practice."

Emerson's film roles include Unfaithful (2002), Saw (2004) and The Legend of Zorro (2005). But his most widespread acclaim has come from his Emmy-winning turn as the conniving Henry Gale (aka Ben Linus) on the hit TV drama "Lost," for which he also copped a Golden Globe nod in 2009.
