Equally skilled at drama and comedy, the versatile Michael Keaton was born Sept. 9, 1951, in Coraopolis, Pa. After taking a shot at stand-up comedy, he realized he preferred acting and shifted gears. He then headed for Los Angeles and got his first break in 1979 with the short-lived TV sitcom "Working Stiffs."Keaton garnered notoriety and rave reviews in 1982 for his role as a manic morgue worker in Night Shift; on the heels of that success, Keaton crystallized his star status in Mr. Mom (1983). He again displayed his comic chops playing the title character in Beetle Juice (1988) and later that year proved his dramatic flair in Clean and Sober.
Amid much controversy, Keaton landed the coveted part of Batman in 1989, reprising the role in the 1992 sequel, Batman Returns. Among the actor's later films are Multiplicity (1996), Jack Frost (1998) and White Noise (2005).
