Mollie Sugden
A national treasure in her native Britain and forever linked with the wild hairdos and "pussy" jokes about her most famous television character -- pushy sales assistant Betty Slocombe -- Mollie Sugden was born in Keighley, England, on July 21, 1922.

As a promising young acting student, Sugden reaped major awards at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. But her whip-smart comedic chops were her meal ticket more often than not. Best known for her portrayal of Slocombe on the long-running BBC comedy "Are You Being Served?" (1972-1985), Sugden reprised the role for the short-lived spinoff series, "Grace & Favour."

Sugden also starred opposite her spouse, fellow English actor William Moore, on the 1980s sitcom "My Husband and I." Married to Moore from 1956 until his death in 2000, Sugden passed away July 1, 2009, at the age of 86.
