Born Dec. 22, 1962, in Suffolk, England, Ralph Fiennes was the product of a creative union -- the son of a photographer and a novelist (and brother to fellow actor Joseph). After classical training as an actor, Fiennes gained immediate fame with his second film role, portraying a cruel Nazi commandant in Schindler's List (1993). The performance earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. After memorable work in Quiz Show (1994) and Strange Days (1995), Fiennes was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for The English Patient (1996). Since then, he's appeared in such films as The End of the Affair (1999), Sunshine (1999), Spider (2002) and Red Dragon (2002).
Despite his weighty repertoire, Fiennes still finds time for light comedies and fantasy films such as Maid in Manhattan (2002) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), in which he plays the infamous Lord Voldemort.
