Her spectacular figure and sensuous face landed Raquel Welch in the pantheon of Hollywood sex goddesses. Born Sept. 5, 1940, in Chicago, she moved to California in 1942, growing up in the San Diego area.Welch worked as a model and TV weather girl before her 1964 film debut; in 1966, she was cast in the part that solidified her sex symbol status: One Million Years B.C. After appearances in Lady in Cement (1968) and 100 Rifles (1969), Welch played her first starring role in Myra Breckenridge (1970). The buxom beauty won a Golden Globe for her performance in The Three Musketeers (1973) and good reviews for the 1974 sequel, The Four Musketeers.
Beginning in 1979, Welch virtually vanished from American theaters until her 1994 turn in Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. Welch's subsequent movies include Chairman of the Board (1998) and Legally Blonde (2001).
