One of the first Hispanic actors to work steadily in postwar Hollywood, Montalban became a household name later in his career, thanks to the hit TV show "Fantasy Island," which paired him with diminutive sidekick Hervé Villechaize. He¿s also remembered as Captain Kirk¿s bare-chested nemesis, Khan Noonien Singh, from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), a character he created 15 years earlier on the original television series.
Montalban's résumé includes a Tony nomination for the 1958 musical "Jamaica" and an Emmy Award for the 1978 miniseries How the West Was Won. He died on Jan. 14, 2009, at the age of 88.
