Ricky Gervais
Ricky GervaisBorn on June 25, 1961, in Reading, England, Ricky Gervais got his start in show business performing stand-up comedy, managing a rock band and working in radio, which led to his hosting a comedy-variety program, "The Ricky Gervais Show," on a London radio station.

But his real breakthrough came with the sleeper U.K. television hit "The Office" -- a scathing workplace satire that spawned a U.S. sitcom by the same name -- earning Gervais an Emmy and a Golden Globe award.

Making the move to the big screen, Gervais took on roles in movies such as For Your Consideration and Night at the Museum (both 2006), but he continued his wide variety of showbiz interests, including television cameo spots and stand-up comedy tours. He followed up his TV success with "Extras," a behind-the-scenes, decidedly less-than-glamorous look at the entertainment industry, for which he took home another Emmy in 2007 for his lead role.
