Ron Silver
Born July 2, 1946, New York City native Ron Silver was an activist and scholar in addition to being one of the most well-regarded character actors of his generation. With a master's degree in Chinese history, Silver taught high school before turning his attention full time to acting.

After studying drama at the Actors Studio, Silver made his film debut in 1976's Tunnel Vision, the same year he landed a role on the sitcom "Rhoda." Splitting his time between stage and screen, Silver won a Tony Award in 1988 for his role in "Speed-the-Plow" and received his first Emmy nod the same year for his work in Billionaire Boys Club.

Silver's other notable parts include that of lawyer Alan Dershowitz in Reversal of Fortune (1990) and White House strategist Bruno Gianelli on "The West Wing." Silver, who served as president of the Actors' Equity Association from 1991 to 2000, died March 15, 2009.
