Sissy Spacek
Sissy SpacekBorn Dec. 25, 1949, Sissy Spacek was a popular, outgoing girl growing up in Quitman, Texas. After high school, she studied at the Actors Studio and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

In the wake of her film debut in Prime Cut (1972), Spacek boldly displayed her talent with a series of major roles in Badlands (1973), 1976's Carrie (which earned her the first of six Best Actress Oscar nominations) and 1980's Coal Miner's Daughter -- her first Oscar win for portraying country singer Loretta Lynn. She continued to rake in Oscar nods in the 1980s for her work in Missing (1982), The River (1984) and Crimes of the Heart (1986).

Choosing to slow the pace of her acting work, Spacek has since taken on a series of strong supporting roles in films such as JFK (1991), Affliction (1998), The Straight Story (1999) and 2001's In the Bedroom, which garnered her another Oscar nomination.
