Stephen Colbert
Stephen ColbertAn actor, writer and comedian who was twice honored as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people, Stephen Colbert was born on May 13, 1964, and grew up in Charleston, S.C.

He studied drama at Northwestern University and honed his razor-sharp wit with Chicago's famed Second City comedy troupe before working on "The Daily Show" as an Emmy-winning writer and correspondent from 1997 to 2005. During that same period, he reunited with Second City alumni Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris to create and co-star in the short-lived "Strangers with Candy."

Colbert's "Daily Show" appearances and deadpan TV persona proved so popular that, in 2005, he was tapped to host his own Emmy-nominated spinoff, the talking-head spoof "The Colbert Report." Fans may also recognize his voice as one-half of the Ambiguously Gay Duo, a recurring animated short that aired on "Saturday Night Live."
