Sunny's first time out was a smash: In 1983, he was cast opposite Amrita Singh in Betaab, a Bollywood rendition of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." Deol proved himself a dramatic actor with Arjun, then established his action-hero persona with Dacait and Yateem (both 1989).
Whether in ensemble cast films such as Ram Avtar and Paap Ki Duniya or starring in vehicles such as Narasimha (1991) and Damini (1993), Deol has emerged as a worthy successor to his father's film legacy. In his long career that includes more than 70 films, he was bestowed the Outstanding Performance honors at the Lux Zee Cine Awards. In 1999, he made his directorial debut with Dillagi.
