Tony Shalhoub was born Oct. 9, 1953, in Green Bay, Wis., of Lebanese heritage. He attended the University of Southern Maine in Portland and began appearing on network TV in 1986 on such shows as "The Equalizer" and "Spencer for Hire."In 1989, Shalhoub made his film debut in Longtime Companion, followed by Barton Fink (1991), Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), Big Night (1996) and a memorable bit as an alien pawnshop owner in Men in Black (and its sequel). He was also a regular on the TV sitcom "Wings" (1991-97) but found his biggest television success in the title role of "Monk," starting in 2002. As hypochondriac detective Adrian Monk, Shalhoub chalked up a number of acting awards, including a Golden Globe in 2003 and three Emmys (in 2003, '05 and '06).
Among Shalhoub's other cinematic credits are Galaxy Quest (1999), The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) and all three Spy Kids movies.
