Born Jan. 17, 1980, in Los Angeles, Deschanel got her first break when she landed a guest spot on the sitcom "Veronica's Closet." A year later, she made her film debut as a troubled teen in Mumford (1999), and the following year she joined the ensemble cast of director Cameron Crowe's megahit Almost Famous.
With her career off the launching pad, Deschanel has worked steadily ever since with roles in The Good Girl (2002), All the Real Girls (2003), the Will Ferrell comedy Elf (2003), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) and Failure to Launch (2006). Also a talented vocalist, Deschanel appeared in the 2005 TV remake of Once Upon a Mattress.
