Abigail's Party

Written and directed by Mike Leigh, this installment in the BBC teleplay anthology series "Play for Today" crafts a satirical tale about keeping up with the Joneses in 1970s suburban London. Beverly (Alison Steadman) and Laurence (Tim Stern) host a cocktail party for their neighbors, and the evening progresses from awkward stiffness to all-out dysfunction as Beverly gets soused and begins sparring with her husband.
