At the close of World War II, German factory worker Kalle Bluecher (Erwin Geschonneck) sets out for Wittenberge for the supplies to reopen his destroyed Dresden plant. Reaching his destination is simple enough, but how to bring back seven barrels of contraband carbide? He must skirt both American and Russian soldiers, as well as an assortment of war-shocked characters in this fast-paced comedy from director Frank Beyer.
