The Clinging Vine / The Age of Ballyhoo
(1926)|
Two classic films offer a glimpse into a bygone age filled with glamour, intrigue and forgivably improbable plotlines. In Cecil B. DeMille's The Clinging Vine (1926), a hardworking woman (Leatrice Joy) is forced to feminize herself in order to land a man who's invented a giant eggbeater. In Age of Ballyhoo (1986), legendary silent-screen actress Gloria Swanson narrates a retrospective look at 1920s Hollywood, the era that made her famous.
